#XrisStories 24 - The Art of Letting Go (When Everything Pushes You to Do the Opposite)

514

There are weeks when you tell yourself life is beautiful.

And then there are those when you wonder what you possibly did to deserve this. 😅

This week clearly belongs to the second category.

First, my daughter.

Changing countries, schools, friends, landmarks... At eleven, that is quite an adventure. And her adjustment is taking longer than expected.

As a father, that is what touches me most. The worry, the helplessness of not being able to fix everything, and that little question that sometimes comes back: did we make the right choices for her?

We know it takes time. But between what we know and what we feel, there is sometimes a world.

Then, our move to Mauritius.

Our real estate project is taking longer than expected. Between finishes that are still not at the expected level and endless administrative procedures that keep delaying the operational launch, patience is seriously being tested.

And to complete the picture, here I am explaining to the police their own circular, and why 75% and 85% transparency for tinted windows are not exactly the same thing.

A detail? Obviously. But by the fifteenth pebble in your shoe, you start limping. 🙃

And then there is business.

Disagreements between partners are normal. Frustrations too. What is harder is when confrontation replaces dialogue.

I have always believed that before trying to convince someone, you should first try to understand their point of view.

Listening is not giving in. Explaining is not attacking.

In short, a frankly rotten week.

No catastrophe. Just an accumulation of annoyances that ends up weighing far more than one isolated problem.

And I realize something.

For years, my reflex when facing a difficulty has always been the same: analyze, decide, act, solve.

Which is rather useful when you are an entrepreneur.

But you cannot speed up a child’s adjustment, force an administration to become efficient, or make someone listen.

Sometimes, letting go is not giving up. It is simply accepting that you cannot control everything.

I am not sure I am very good at that exercise.

But Mauritius seems quite determined to give me a few private lessons. 🇲🇺😂
